10 Frame Mitten Addition (Parent Lesson)

Roll both dice. How many mittens did you roll? 5, 8, 2. Use your 10 Frame to find out. Then challenge your friend. Can you get more mittens filled in on your mitten 10 frame?

This printable game allows you to play again and again. There are also three versions of the activity to help your child learn how to accurately add using the 10 frame strategy. (Game #1 the dice has mittens to help count, Game #2 the dice has mittens and numbers, and Game #3 the dice only has numbers)

Game Play: Roll one dice. On the first 10 frame color in the number of mittens found on the dice. Roll the second dice. On the same 10 frame color in the number of mittens found on that dice. Count the mittens and put the answer in the empty box. Next person goes and does the same. The person with the most mittens on their 10 frame gets the big mitten. Continue until all the 10 frames are complete. The person who gets the most big mittens wins.
