Mitten Addition Puzzles with 10 Frame (Parent Lesson)

Which pair of mittens go together? Can you figure it out to complete the puzzle? Then use the 10 frame to show everyone how you knew this!

This printable activity allows you to play again and again. There are also three versions of the puzzle activity to help your child learn how to accurately add using the 10 frame strategy. They also learn to show their addition using objects. (Puzzle #1 the mitten answers go from 1-7, Puzzle #2 mitten answers are 6-10, and Puzzle #4 the mitten answers go from 1-10 and all the mittens are the same direction; finding the correct answer is challenging.)

Game Play: Pick 3 mittens of the same color. Place the mittens on the adding mat the way you think they should go. Color in the 10 frame to show the number of mittens on the first mitten. Use a different colored dry erase marker. Color in the 10 frame to show the number of mittens on the second mitten. Count the mittens on the 10 frame if it adds up to the third mitten set the puzzle aside. If not change the mittens. When correct clean the adding mat. Then continue until all the mitten puzzles are complete.

Your child will learn how to add accurately by using the 10 frame addition strategy. As well as, how to show their addition by using objects (mittens on a 10 frame).
